Wilderness Survival Campout 2011

I Survived by youth webmaster Holden Rowe

On March 19, 2011 14 scouts and 2 adults from Troop 118 attended Byron Kerns Survival School. Byron has been a USAF SERE instructor (aka survival teacher for air force), a MARINE, and a member of the NAVY. He has taught for over 40 years, from NAVY SEAL TEAM SIX to cub scouts. He has been in many survival situations which makes him the very best instructor for the Wilderness Survival Merit Badge. The campout with Byron was not only a refresher but a big ole slab of new knowledge.
There was a 23 question test at the end of the course which was tied between Holden Rowe and Noah Bush. The tie breaker came down to a knot that was taught only once during the emergency shelter portion of the course, the Butterfly knot. The prize, a $50 cabelas gift card, was awarded to the one and the only HOLDEN ROWE (webmaster)!!!! ;P
And always remember in a survival situation your 7 priorities:
1.     PMA (Positive Mental Attitude)
2.     WFA (Wilderness First Aid)
3.     Shelter
4.     Fire
5.     Signaling
6.     Water
7.     Food
